The Obama Administration is reviewing the Ares rockets and Orion spacecraft programs that are intended to take mankind back to the moon by 2020. Less expensive alternatives are being investigated, and the panel should release its opinion sometime this month, in August 2009. The Cold War is no longer impelling us to speed up the race to the moon--it seems our current Economic War is instead a force for slowing things down--perhaps even to 2028 if NASA has to come up with a suggested budget $30 billion lower than their $101 billion original estimation.
