One simple technique to coin a neologism is the blend word. Blendwords take parts of other words and combine them. Here is a list of popular blendwords that use the first 2 syllables of other words. Some of the information here is derived from William Safire's "On Language" column in the New York Times Magazine.

Portmanteau is another word for a word that is comprised of parts from two other words. But broadly stated as such, they can be from any of the syllables in the two words. This quiz will stick to words that use ONLY the first syllables of each word. I believe a lot of Sploofus editors in fact have this type of name: But all the editors names are creative examples of Portmanteaus.
