quotDustMyBroomquotTheSongRemainstheSame Photo Back by popular demand after a six-week hiatus is another quiz in "The Song Remains the Same" series. This quiz is about recordings of the famous blues classic "Dust My Broom". The goal is to correctly identify the musical artist who recorded a version of "Dust My Broom" from the information provided in each question.

"Dust My Broom" is a song about a man's betrayal by his woman (both an old and common theme in art) and what he plans to do in light of the betrayal. Although there are many lyrical variations, the following is the first verse of the original recording, which was released under the name "I Believe I'll Dust My Broom":

"I'm goin' get up in the mornin',
I believe I'll dust my broom.
I'm goin' get up in the mornin',
I'll believe I'll dust my broom.
Girlfriend, the black man you been lovin',
Girlfriend, can get my room."

I take the term "dust my broom" to be a metaphor for a new start, as in the folk saying that "a new broom sweeps clean", although there are other views on what "dust my broom" means" - some of which would not be appropriate for a family friendly site.

Introducing this quiz is a photograph of the blues master who is most closely associated with "Dust My Broom" and who is also the correct answer to question 2.

As is true of all quizzes in my "Song Remains the Same" series, I own a copy of any recording that is used as a correct answer in this quiz. Given that "Dust My Broom" is a blues, I think I have a relatively diverse group of musical artists represented in this quiz.

Sources: Listening to various recordings of "Dust My Broom", reading the liner notes accompanying those recordings to the extent provided, and Wikipedia, the on-line encyclopedia.
