Afrikaans is the most widely spoken Language in South Africa. It is mostly of Dutch origin, but it has adopted many words from other languages such as Malay, Hindi, English, German, Mandarin, French etc.

However, it has also donated several words to the English language. Most of these words entered English as a result of the Anglo-Boer Wars that were fought at the turn of the 19th/20th Century when British soldiers picked up the words from local Afrikaans speakers.

Hi= I enjoyed your quiz, but more people speak isi Zulu and isi Xhosa than Afrikaans. English is also the lingua franca of the country.
