Great Robberies in Academy Awards for Best Actor
![]() |
This quiz is built based on what I believe to be the great injustices in Academy Awards history. While there are certainly debates in many categories, usually the Academy picks very deserving winners. However, in these ten questions, I profile Awards that I believe to be incredibly unjust, selections that were no doubt made based on a lifetime of work and not the performance in the film. I wonder what YOU think... (NOTE: The answers will include the other four nominees always, as well as a co-star from the movie which is the right answer, or in the case of a film award, another movie released in the same year. Enjoy!

good
It felt like I was writing my own commentaries and feelings to an alarming degree. We are in sync on so many actors and their performances, mostly so in Peter O'Toole and "The Lion in Winter" (how many people even KNOW that movie, let alone count it as one of the greatest EVER?)
Speaking of 1968, it was a year of robberies: As huge a fan as I am of both Streisand (saw her on stage in FUNNY GIRL 5 times!) and Hepburn, and as deserving as both stars and their performances were, IMO the best performance by an actress that year was Vanessa Redgrave in "Isadora" (or "The Loves of Isadora," depending on whether one saw it before or after the hatchet job they did in having to edit it down to a shorter running time...) I wonder how you feel about that one?
Great job!

Not to bore you, but I just finished this one and have to point out that The Hustler is one of my two favorite films ever (when I wasn't working in the carnival, I was racking balls in the pool hall), AND I believe that Daniel Day-Lewis' turn as Bill the Butcher is one of the greatest performances of all time.

Great quiz! It is interesting, isn't it, how playing a role as a "challenged" person gives one an in?
