Inventors Who Were Home Schooled

Many inventors throughout history were home schooled. Here are two opposing views as expressed in the March 2008 issue of Glamour magazine: Some say it provides extraordinary opportunities since even if you're being taught all subjects, when there is one that the student particularly enjoys, it can be explored in greater depth. And as for the claim that there's a lack of socializing, that all depends on the family. If they are industrious enough, some home schooling families have gotten together with other home schoolinig families and have formed debate teams, or joined church choirs, or any of several other forms of clubs. And some students claim they have an easier time in college because they were used to structuring their own curriculum. On the other hand, some kids crave the company of other children. One woman regretted her home schooling because being raised by a single mother who thought regular school would "stifle our artistic nature" gave her kids books and said, "If you want to learn, go ahead." As a result all she did was play with her dolls, ignoring her school books. She says by the time she got to college she didn't know how to have relationships, so she shut people out.
