The Mary Tyler Moore Show ran from 1970 - 1977 on CBS. It's my personal favorite TV show of all time, and many critics agree with me! During its seven seasons on TV it won a record breaking 29 Emmy Awards. It was the first television show to feature a single, working woman who wasn't looking for a man to marry her, but instead was ready and willing to live life on her terms. With perhaps the best ensemble cast ever, the show was realistic in that its characters were fully-realized individuals who evolved over time and became more complex and thus more interesting. Instead of predicable story lines with monolithic characters, The Mary Tyler Moore Show gave the audience a show that was believable and realistic while being funny at the same time.
