|Get Caught Reading Month is a US nationwide campaign that was started in 1999 by former Congresswoman Pat Schroeder. It is co-sponsored by the Association of American Publishers, and the aim is basically to simply convince people, or at least remind them of, how fun it is to read, how much joy and education and spirituality and help and insight reading can accomplish for people. Studies have proven that when parents and school help children develop early literacy skills through books, it leads to a child's success in reading. I guess that seems obvious. But, with this awareness, the Get Caught Reading Campaign's intentions are to encourage children and people of all ages to crack open those books and let the wonderment ensue!|
In the past celebrities such as Johnny Damon of the New York Yankees, Gloria Estefan, Olympic Gymnast Shawn Johnson, Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah, L.L. Cool J, NBA player Greg Oden, Rosie O'Donnell, Dolly Parton and Robin Williams have all taken part in the program and...got caught reading!
