The Mercury Music Prize, currently known as the Barclaycard Mercury Prize for sponsorship reasons is an annual award given to the best album in Great Britain and Ireland, as decided by a select panel of musicians, music executives and journalists. Over the years the award has often been controversial with many unexpected winners from different genres of music, With the 2009 nominations almost upon us, now is as good a time as any to reflect on the previous Prize Winners and see what you can remember of them.
