Movies That Don't End Happily Ever After

My main source for the background for this quiz was an article by Robin Palmer called "Hollywood's Love Affair With Happy Endings." He points out that for a given period Hollywood produced movies about the anti-hero for whom things did not always turn out well. Then came "Star Wars" and the fantasy world. Even Lucas was brave enough and rich enough to do a later trilogy which does not end happily. ( My "Star Wars" knowledge is nil so there will be no questions about it on this quiz.) Foreign film makers make many movies with tragic endings. Hollywood, even when the hero anti-hero dies or does not succeed, puts that little end twist which makes it seem like this is for the best or the good of mankind. They often change story or book endings that do not fit the mold. If you can get beyond that, this is a quiz about unhappy endings. In recent years there have been movies that do not end on a happy note, backed by individuals with lots of money. Usually they do not earn as much at the box office as the other kind do. My other source was a chat site where one post asked people to name 10 US movies that did not end happily. No one person could do it. All I got from either site were names, so looked up the movies on an individual basis. Hope you enjoy!
