|In the Nuclear Fusion research community, it is almost a standing joke that, if you ask someone "When will we have fusion power?" the answer is always "50 years from now.". That is the answer you would have heard 50 years ago; it is still the same answer today; and it is likely to be the same answer 50 years in the future! However, one day, we will realize that the light at the end of the tunnel is closer than we think. In the meantime, here is a primer to help you understand what fusion research is trying to do. This first quiz merely introduces a few (very basic) terms and the reaction that is considered to be the easiest to achieve.|
Certainly, this panacea for all our energy ills is difficult to achieve, but two of the biggest hurdles to overcome are funding and effort. Building a practical fusion reactor is likely to take a long time, but if we do not continue to make the commitment and the effort, that time will be never.
This quiz is intended as an introduction to the concepts of Nuclear Fusion Technology, in the hope that you will be enlightened about its potential as a global means of supplying energy.
