|Contrary to what you may hear, William Shakespeare did not write in Old English (that would be the author of “Beowulf”) or even Middle English (that would be Geoffrey Chaucer). Shakespeare’s language belongs to the category of Early Modern English.|
And it’s actually far more modern that many people realize.
This quiz explores modern vocabulary that appears in Shakespeare. Not in contemporary “translations” or “easy to read” versions, but in the First Folio or in a few instances quarto versions of his work that preceded the First Folio.
So if you’re ready for a modern vocabulary drill, hit “Start Quiz” and dive in.
