The Mystery of Roanoke Island

It was 1587, during the reign of Elizabeth I in England, when Sir Walter Raleigh was granted a patent by the Queen to establish the newly found colony of Roanoke, Virginia, (now North Carolina). It was the first English colony to be established in the New World. The new colonists were ill prepared for life in America. Badly in need of supplies, men were sent back to England for provisions for the colonists. Their return to the island was delayed by many unfortunate incidents, leaving the colonist in dire straits. Upon John White's belated return, not one soul could be found in the abandoned colony. To this day, there is no definitive answer as to why or where the missing colonists had gone, only more questions. How much do you know about the Lost Colony? Take the quiz and find out. Have fun!

should have gotten an editor's award. I was wondering about the picture you used for the quiz, are they excavating a site? I visited the island about 12-14 years ago and there wasn't much to see, there was a palisade and a few signs but they were basiclly saying this is where we think maybe the fort might have been and it might have kind of looked like this. Also have you heard about the "white indians"? supposedly the Jamestown settlers were told of some blue eyed indians that were all killed by Powatan.
