U.S. Serial Killers
![]() |
The very fact that numerous books have been written and movies made on most of these killers shows that the general public has a certain fascination with the macabre. Fictional serial killers like Norman Bates and Hannibal Lecter have come out of Hollywood and have been box office hits. A serial killer is roughly defined as an individual who kills three or more people over time with a "cooling off" period in between killings. This differentiates him/her from the mass murder who kills many people at one time. From my research I could not find any individual who has been able to successfully profile a serial killer. They may come from rich or poor families, have been abused or greatly loved as children. Some become social misfits while others have graduate degrees and are successful business people. They may be either male or female, hetrosexual,or homosexual, as well as gregarious or introverted. In short-no one description fits them all. My sources for this are extensive Internet searches. Also for most I am old enough to have heard if not read about them at the time of their killings. I will describe them and give you their nickname if they have one-most do. No in-depth details of the killings as this is a family game. All of these people are/were US criminals. Enjoy!

There has been documentation that the first female serial killer was actually a nurse -Jane Toppan- in the 1890s, other sites point to Anna Marie Hahn in the 1930s or Belle Gunness in the 1900s all predating your answer. FYI
