Wings (1927)

“Wings,” starring Clara Bow, Charles "Buddy" Rogers and Richard Arlen, was the first movie and the only silent film to be awarded the Best Picture Academy Award (which was then called the Best Production award). I had the immense pleasure of seeing it a few days ago with live organ accompaniment at the Ohio Theater in Columbus, Ohio, as part of the longest-running classic film series in America (40 years and going strong!).

Great quiz, brought back a lot of memories. When one of the old classical theaters opened in my home town the first movie they showed was Wings. It was also the last film when they closed years and years later. I was able to catch it then. It was great with organ accompaniment and titles on the screen. That beautiful theater is now a parking lot. Ahh progress.
