While watching Jeopardy! the other day, I saw a word in a clue that I use every day and I had no idea that it was Yiddish! So, I had to investigate. I found several words that we use mostly as slang in the United States that were either derived from Yiddish or simply stolen outright by English speaking people and adopted into our common usage. I am a not a native speaker of Yiddish, although it appears that I use it a lot. Each of the correct answers I had heard of myself. All incorrect answers are still Yiddish words. According to Wikipedia, compendium of all knowledge, Yiddish is a "high German language of Jewish origin". It is written with the Hebrew alphabet, so some spelling variations will occur as it is translated into our own Latin alphabet. Be aware. Try saying the answer options out loud if the spellings look unfamiliar. You'll have fun taking this quiz. If you don't take it right now, you're meshuggah!
