Sploofus Re-Launch FAQ

This list should provide answers to the most common questions concerning the re-launch of Sploofus on April 20, 2011. Please refer to the Help section for all general Sploofus questions.


Q: Who is running Sploofus now?

In March 2011, Sploofus was placed under new ownership and transferred to a new company, Sploofus Holdings LLC. The founder of Sploofus, Justin Morton, is no longer a majority shareholder, but will act as a consultant during this transitional phase. The new management team is devoted to restoring Sploofus, the internet's best community-driven trivia website.


Q: Why were the points reset?

The original point structure was simply unsustainable from a technical point of view. Several years ago, it was known that a point reset was necessary to provide a fair and consistent experience for all players.

The points accumulated by players prior to the shutdown will be preserved on the Legacy Leaderboard. The levels attained by correctly answering trivia questions of the day will be maintained, making it easy to identify the long-time Sploofusers within the community. In addition, players that have authored games will continue to recieve points when their Trivia Quizzes, Kerblunks, and Trivia Squares are taken by others.


Q: What changes have been made to the point structure for each game?

There have been several updates to the point structure to ensure consistency throughout the different game types. The major changes are outlined below.

TQOTD Wagers and Showdowns
Both of these challenges will be limited to a maximum wager of 5,000 points.

Quiz and Kerblunk Author Rewards
Authors will receive between 10 and 45 points each time another player finishes their game. This range accounts for both the difficulty and average rating.

WordPuzzles
The starting value for each game is now 500 points, with 10 points being deducted for each incorrect letter. The leaders will receive the same rewards, with all other participants receiving between 100 and 200 bonus points.

WordRounds/WordMatches (revised 5/4/2011)
The leaders will receive 200 to 500 points based on their final placing. Players outside of the top 10 will receive between 100 and 190 points for participating.

Who/Where the Heck Am I? (revised 11/16/2011)
The player with the correct guess will win a 1 month free gold membership and 1,000 bonus points. If the player already has a premium membership, they will receive 5,000 points instead.

Player Referrals
Players will receive 1,000 bonus points and a showdown token for each new player they refer to Sploofus.


Q: I was a paying member before Sploofus went down. What should I expect?

Players with premium memberships (Gold/Platinum) during the shutdown in June 2010 will have their paid memberships automatically extended. The new expiration date will be at least 3 times longer than the amount of time remaining when the lights went out.


Q: My email address has changed. How do I update this information so I can receive the Trivia Question of the Day (TQOTD)?

Once you have logged into Sploofus with your original username and password, click the "MySploofus" link in the navigation header. From this page, click the "Account Status/Email" link in the right column. On this form, you will have ability to update your email address. All future email communications, including the Trivia Question of the Day (TQOTD) will be sent to this email address.
